Why Do Pregnant Women Rub Their Bellies?

I rub my belly to stop the pain. My baby is digging his feet into my stomach and pushing with all of his might. I am not really rubbing but rather kind of pushing his feet off of my gall bladder.

How would you answer this question?

I always rubbed my tummy as kind of a way to bond with my baby. She always seemed to stop moving around so much when I had my hand on my tummy.

Rubbing the belly does seem to stop the kicking. I also do it to make sure the baby is still moving. I get nervous if I don't feel the baby move for a long time.

I agree with Melissa. I did rub and talk to my belly. So did Adam. When she was in the NICU, and I'd touch and whisper to her she knew it was me and you can see her monitor was stablizing.

Now I'm crying.
